Petia Vlahovska Named 2021 Outstanding Referee by APS

Vlahovska is among 151 honorees in this year’s class

Northwestern Engineering’s Petia Vlahovska has been named a 2021 Outstanding Referee by the American Physical Society (APS).

Petia VlahovskaInstituted in 2008, the APS’s Outstanding Referee program annually recognizes approximately 150 out of nearly 71,000 active referees who have demonstrated exceptional work in the assessment of manuscripts published in the Physical Review journals. This year’s 151 honorees were chosen based on the quality, number, and timeliness of their reports.

Vlahovska, professor of engineering sciences and applied mathematics and (by courtesy) mechanical engineering, is an expert in interfacial flows and soft matter, including the fluid-structure interaction in Stokes flow, the mechanics of biomembranes, and electrohydrodynamics.

Vlahovska is the director of the Applied Math Lab, where her research integrates theory and experiments in the mathematical modeling of physical and biological systems, exploring membrane biophysics and non-equilibrium soft matter.
