MS Programs with Interdepartmental Minors
MS Programs with Interdepartmental Minors
A new attractive option of choosing a major in a student‘s home department and a minor in another department is available to McCormick students enrolled in MS programs starting in Fall 2009. Students choosing this option will receive a degree in their major field and a certificate in the minor field. By choosing a complementary minor to the major field, MS students can enhance their credentials and marketability.
Many different combinations are possible, for example, biomedical and mechanical engineering with a specialization in neural engineering or biomedical and electrical engineering and computer science with a specialization in diagnostic devices. Students can design their own major-minor combinations and have them approved by their respective departments. The course and other requirements for the major and minor may vary by department and should be checked with the directors of graduate studies of the respective departments. Most departments require 12 courses for MS degree out of which 9 are required in the major field and 3 in the minor field. These requirements can be completed in one academic year.
One particularly attractive combination is a major in any engineering field with a three-course minor in engineering management through the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management Sciences. The requirements for this minor are the following 3 courses:
- IEMS 402: Engineering Management
- IEMS 407: Quantitative Methods for Decision Making
- One course chosen from
- IEMS 415: Computer Simulation for Risk and Operations Analysis
- IEMS 426: Project Management
- IEMS 427: Operations Analysis
- IEMS 428: Design for Six Sigma
- IEMS 486: Logistics and Service Operations Analysis
