Christina Kosmowski, Zuo-Jun (Max) Shen Honored with IEMS Distinguished Alumni Award

Northwestern Industrial Engineering honored alumni Christina Kosmowski (’98) and Zuo-Jun (Max) Shen (PhD ’00) with its 2024 IEMS Distinguished Alumni Award during an October 18 ceremony at the Norris University Center. The event included remarks from Northwestern President Michael Schill.
The CEO of LogicMonitor, Kosmowski is responsible for accelerating the company’s hypergrowth and helping C-level executives and their teams thrive through transformation. Prior to assuming the role of CEO, Kosmowski served as LogicMonitor’s president, leading go-to-market strategy, research and development, customer success, and operations. She has held leadership positions in the enterprise software space for more than two decades and is passionate about discovering new ways to bring the worlds of technology and business together.
Captain of the University soccer team while a student, Kosmowski is a member of Northwestern Engineering’s McCormick Advisory Council. She serves on the board of Rapid7 and is a founding partner of Operator Collective, an organization that brings together tech’s most sought-after operators, investors, and founders from diverse backgrounds to invest in and accelerate the next generation of business-to-business technology.
Shen, vice president and pro-vice-chancellor (research), and chair professor in logistics and supply chain management at the University of Hong Kong, has contributed significantly to the literature on supply chain modeling. His dissertation was seminal in combining inventory and facility location modeling. The two papers from that part of his dissertation have been cited more than 1,750 times. He went on to contribute fundamental work in the field of reliability in supply chain modeling and analysis.
Previously a faculty member at the University of California, Berkeley, Shen eventually became a chancellor's professor at UC Berkeley. He led the JD.com team to win the prestigious 2024 INFORMS Prize for its outstanding use of operations research and analytics to enhance its supply chain efficiency and serves as supply chain chief scientist for JD.com. Under Shen's guidance, JD.com was also a finalist for the Franz Edelman Award for Achievement in Operations Research and the Management Sciences in 2023.
