Edward Voboril, adjunct professor of biomedical engineering and chairman of NUvention at the Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at Northwestern University, has been named chairman of the board of Analogic Corporation, which designs, manufactures and sells high-technology, high-precision conversion and signal processing instruments and systems, and medical electronic equipment..

Voboril has served on the board of the company since 1990. Voboril recently retired as chairman of the board for Greatbatch Technologies, a leading supplier of enabling technology to the implantable medical industry and for critical commercial applications. Voboril served as Greatbatch’s chief executive officer from 1990 to August 2006. Prior to joining Greatbatch, Mr. Voboril was vice president and general manager of the biomedical division of PPG Industries. He was previously vice president and general manager of the medical electronics division of Honeywell, which was acquired by PPG. Additionally, he served on the boards of Advamed, the Greater Buffalo Partnership and Niagra University.

NUvention is a visionary academic partnership created by the McCormick School of Engineering’s Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation to expand upon Northwestern University's excellence in interdisciplinary study. NUvention's first class offering, Medical Innovation, is a two-quarter class involving students and faculty from four Northwestern schools: law, medicine, engineering, and business. Medical Innovation focuses on identifying unmet clinical needs, innovating novel medical technology, and delivering this innovation to the bedside. Students experience the entire innovation/business life cycle from ideation to prototyping and business plan development.
