Members of the Northwestern University chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers recently traveled to their fall regional conference and took home several awards.

The chapter’s Academic Technical Bowl team took first place in the regional competition. That team will go on to the NSBE National Convention to compete against other regional champions in the national competition.

The team members include:
Okechukwu Chika, senior, electrical engineering
Reginald Sandy, sophomore, biomedical engineering
Evan Dickerson-Rusan, sophomore, electrical engineering
Taju Sanusi, freshman, biomedical engineering

Two members of the chapter also competed in the Undergraduate Students in Technical Research competition. Zuri Hemphill, sophomore in biomedical engineering, placed third for her research in memory alloy stents, and Uchenna Moka, senior in biomedical engineering, received first place for her research on the formation of pancreatic islets in the developing mouse. Both will also be presenting their research at the national convention in March 2009.
