Northwestern is a world leader in the design of soft materials, and the Center for Computation and Theory of Soft Materials (CCTSM) is at the forefront of this effort. Providing computational resources for materials design, the CCTSM enables faculty and students to work together to design new soft materials for energy storage and conversion, molecular electronics, and bio-molecular therapeutics.
Funded by the McCormick School of Engineering and Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences, the CCTSM offers high-throughput and computationally intensive computing. This combination allows researchers to incorporate the many length and time scales crucial for modeling soft materials, taking into account the many properties that are encoded in the chemistry of their molecules. It also helps elucidate the properties that emerge during physical interactions with interfaces and solvents or during cooperative effects.
Students must be nominated by faculty and then invited to join the Center.
