Dr. Jonathan Hourmozdi is currently in his third year of cardiology fellowship and a fellow in the Artificial Intelligence in Cardiovascular Disease program through Northwestern Medicine’s Bluhm Cardiovascular Institute. He obtained bachelor’s degrees in biology and chemistry at Indiana University Bloomington where he did research in evolutionary biology and comparative genomics, before completing his medical schooling at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine. During medical school, he also earned his M.A. in Medical Humanities and Bioethics from Northwestern University. He then continued on to the University of Washington in Seattle, where he completed internal medicine residency and an additional year as Inpatient Chief Medical Resident at the University of Washington’s primary Montlake campus, before returning to Chicago to continue his training in Cardiology at Northwestern. His interests include leveraging machine learning to improve cardiovascular outcomes for patients with advanced heart failure and developing an ethical framework for assessing artificial intelligence adoption in the healthcare setting. In particular, Dr. Hourmozdi seeks to understand how advanced algorithms might help improve allocation of scarce resources like solid organ transplantation, and how to mitigate the potential of these algorithms in exacerbating healthcare disparities.
