Welcome!
We are thrilled that you have decided to become a part the Northwestern Master of Science in Machine Learning and Data Science family. By accepting this offer of admission you are also joining an accomplished and engaged community of more than 230,000 Northwestern alumni worldwide. We are excited for the adventure you are about to begin and the MLDS program team is here to make sure your transition from applicant to student is as seamless as possible. Below is a short list of steps you need to take in order to make your decision official. Step 1: Activate Your NetID
Your NetID is your key to all the tools and resources Northwestern has to offer, including your email account, grades, tuition information, research tools, and more.
Follow this link to activate the NetID you received in your acceptance email.
Step 2: Activate Your Email
It’s important that you set up and check your Northwestern email account regularly. After your deposit email, email communications from the program will be sent to this account. Your @u.northwestern.edu account provides email, calendaring, Google Sites and Google Docs, spreadsheets, and presentations. Visit this page to set up your email account.
Bookmark the login page and be sure to keep track of your original username and password–you’ll need them throughout the program.

Step 3: Make Your Tuition Deposit
A non-refundable tuition deposit of $2000 payable by online deposit or check (made out to Northwestern University) is required within one month of receiving your admission decision. This amount will be automatically deducted from your first quarter’s tuition.

Transcripts
Send in official transcripts for all schools attended within six weeks of accepting your offer of admission (if you are still completing your undergraduate degree, please wait until you have your final transcript to send in).

Tuition, Expected Costs, and Financial Assistance
All participants in the MLDS program are responsible for their tuition and fees in accordance with the schedules established by Northwestern University. Tuition was $20,020 for the 2021-22 academic year and will likely adjust for 2022-23.
Students must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident and be enrolled in at least 2 units to be eligible for federal student loans. Please direct any questions about financial aid or loans to the Evanston Office of Graduate Financial Aid.
Visas for International Students
International students can begin the student visa process once you activate your NetID.
Health Insurance
Northwestern requires all degree-seeking students to carry the appropriate health insurance coverage. Consequently, the university defaults each student into the Northwestern University Student Health Insurance Plan (NU-SHIP) for the quarter they are admitted and start their MEM degree. Newly admitted students must confirm enrollment or waive NU-SHIP during that quarter’s open enrollment period. In addition, at the start of each subsequent academic year (Fall quarter) a student will need to confirm or waive NU-SHIP enrollment online in CAESAR. For additional information about NU-SHIP coverage, confirming or waiving NU-SHIP enrollment, or annual Northwestern insurance requirements, please see the Northwestern Student Insurance website.

Vaccination Requirement
Students in on-campus, for-credit programs must be vaccinated against COVID-19 before the start of the 2022-23 academic year to support the health of our community and to position us for in-person classroom and co-curricular activities.
