Yuan (Gabriel) Zhang graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Data Science from the University of California, Irvine in June 2023. His passion for data science stems from Sherlock Holmes, as he appreciates Holmes’ ability to unravel mysterious cases through the observation of subtle clues and making shrewd deductions. In the era of big data, Yuan aspires to become a “data detective”, utilizing his technical expertise and storytelling skills to unearth valuable insights from complex datasets. Ultimately, he aims to assist organizations in making well-informed, data-driven decisions.
Throughout his academic journey, Yuan has cultivated a strong foundation in computer science, statistics, and mathematics, equipping him with a vital skill set for success in the field of data science. One notable accomplishment was his involvement in the capstone project, where he collaborated with a team of five to design and develop a character recommendation tool for the online game “League of Legends”. Yuan successfully integrated a robust ETL pipeline using Python and SQL, ensuring data integrity and efficiency while processing match history from the game APIs. His data-driven approach and use of machine learning models as well as deployment of the web interface, allowed Yuan to gain expertise in all aspects of the data science life cycle.
Eager to further enhance his skills as a data professional, Yuan is excited about embarking on the next phase of his educational journey. He is looking forward to learning from exceptional faculty and collaborating with the cohort, believing that this collaborative environment will stimulate innovative ideas and foster collective growth.
