Robin Bian holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, double majoring in Statistics and Data Science. Throughout his undergraduate studies, he gained a strong foundation in hypothesis testing and statistical analysis, while also developing robust coding skills like R, python and SQL through various data science courses. Beyond academics, Robin engaged in diverse internships and projects that bridged theoretical knowledge with real-world applications. Notably, during his internship at BlueFocus, he played a key role in testing the BlueGrow platform. This platform aids product companies in screening Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) through various dimensions. In this role, Robin utilized A/B testing to determine if matching products with specific KOLs increased engagement and effectiveness. He also employed SQL to analyze vast datasets, extracting insights and trends that informed strategic decisions. These experiences showcased his ability to apply statistical methods and coding skills to industry-specific challenges. Additionally, Robin utilized his statistical skills during his internship at HP Tech, where he was involved in using machine learning models to predict which startups had the potential to be invested in. By analyzing historical data and identifying key success factors, he developed predictive models that provided insights into the viability and growth potential of various startups. This involved cleaning and preprocessing data, selecting appropriate features, and employing algorithms such as logistic regression and random forests to build and validate the models. Robin's work at HP Tech demonstrated his proficiency in applying machine learning techniques to real-world business problems, ultimately helping the company make informed investment decisions. Passionate about the transformative power of data in industries, Robin aspires to become a proficient data scientist. He is particularly excited about the Machine Learning and Data Science (MLDS) master's program at Northwestern University. He looks forward to deepening his understanding of advanced machine learning algorithms, big data analytics, and artificial intelligence. Robin is eager to participate in hands-on projects that will allow him to apply these concepts in real-world scenarios, further honing his technical abilities and preparing him for a dynamic career in data science. He believes that the cutting-edge knowledge and career services provided by the MLDS program will be instrumental in his growth, enabling him to lead industries towards a prosperous, equitable, and sustainable future.
