Yael Braverman graduated Magna Cum Laude from Brown University in 2020 with an Sc.B. in Cognitive Neuroscience. Assessing state of the art methods for fMRI data analysis, she earned the “Richard E. Whalen Award for Undergraduate Research: Excellence in Neuroscience and Behavioral Biology” for her honors undergraduate thesis entitled “Evaluating Pattern-analysis Methods for Estimating Representational Geometry & Dimensionality.” After graduation, she continued to apply and expand her technical skills to the intersection of machine learning, data analysis, and neuroscience, at Boston Children’s Hospital. While at BCH, she maintained an open-source EEG signal processing pipeline, built control-analysis software to evaluate tactile processing in autism, managed a longitudinal EEG and behavioral study with 150 children, and helped teams within the hospital and at external institutions analyze large clinical datasets. From this body of work, she published in peer-reviewed journals and presented at international conferences on topics ranging from the importance of the cognitive-adaptive gap in autistic individuals without cognitive delay, differences in the visual evoked potential in autistic children with co-occurring features of ADHD, altered phase amplitude coupling in Rett syndrome, and identifying biomarkers of anxiety in autistic preschoolers. Yael is passionate about applying computational thinking and data-driven skills to predictive healthcare and biotechnology challenges. She looks forward to deepening her expertise in machine learning and data science while refining her communication skills to convey findings effectively. Outside of her professional work, Yael enjoys trapeze and rock climbing and values engaging with diverse communities through volunteering. She looks forward to continuing her education in Northwestern’s MLDS program, where she hopes to enhance her leadership experience, expand her professional network, and explore the application of data science in various domains.
