John He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry from Middlebury College and became a Data Coordinator at the Department of Radiation Oncology at Brigham and Women's Hospital/Dana Farber Cancer Institute. He spearheaded efforts to automate manual data entry efforts, creating R and Python scripts to pull data from multiple databases to assemble multi-institutional cancer research datasets. Furthermore, he developed methods to perform targeted text extraction, ultimately reducing project timelines from months to weeks. His research initially focused on health complications related to lung cancer radiation therapy, but his growing experience and efficient return on results enabled him to take on large datasets encompassing multiple cancer and treatment types. He eventually joined the Artificial Intelligence in Medicine (AIM) lab at Mass General Brigham, where he analyzed the effect of cancer and smoking on the premature facial aging of cancer patients. Through his experience in the Radiation Oncology Department and the AIM lab, John developed an interest in machine learning and its applications to the medical field. Specifically, he is interested in the application of natural language processing techniques to extract data from medical documentation for research, as well as advancing precision medicine and reducing treatment risk through the use of age detection. In his free time, John likes to play tennis, go on long runs, and hike!
