Daeun Ji graduated from Chung-Ang University in Korea with a double major in Russian Language, Marketing and Logistics Economics. While these fields might seem unrelated to her pursuit of a Master’s degree in Machine Learning and Data Science, they reflect Daeun's passion for exploring diverse disciplines and her commitment to continuous learning. Driven by a desire to communicate with a broader audience, Daeun pursued Russian studies, including a year-long exchange program in Kazakhstan. This experience broadened her cultural horizons and sparked an interest in the economic dynamics of Central Asia, leading her to double major in Marketing and Logistics Economics.
Professionally, Daeun gained six years of experience as a Product Manager at AIA, the world’s largest life insurance company by market capitalization. In this role, she led initiatives like the 'Vitality Monthly Health Route,' significantly boosting user engagement and enhancing the effectiveness of marketing campaigns. This hands-on experience in marketing strategy and campaign execution deepened her interest in data analytics, where she identified critical data gaps affecting decision-making processes. Recognizing the importance of leveraging data-driven insights to create more sophisticated and targeted marketing strategies, Daeun decided to pursue advanced studies in machine learning and data science.
To bridge these gaps and continually develop herself, Daeun completed various courses in areas essential to data science, including SQL, Python, Tableau, and Power BI. This commitment to learning not only enhanced her technical skills but also prepared her to take on the role of Project Manager for the 'Vitality App Cloud Migration' project at AIA. In this capacity, she oversaw the migration of cloud infrastructure from AWS to MS Azure, further refining her abilities in communication, project management, and leadership.
Daeun is eager to advance her expertise through Northwestern University’s M.S. in Machine Learning & Data Science program. She is particularly excited to deepen her knowledge in machine learning and artificial intelligence and apply these skills during her practicum and Capstone Project. Post-graduation, Daeun aims to leverage her expanded skill set to develop predictive models and data-driven strategies in the finance industry, contributing to business growth and innovation. She is committed to becoming a well-rounded data scientist and leader, ready to make meaningful contributions to the field and the broader Northwestern community.
