Grace Lam graduated from the University of California, San Diego with a Bachelor’s degree in Data Science and a minor in Mathematics. During her undergraduate studies, she developed strong programming background in Python, Java, and JavaScript, along with applicable data science skills in machine learning, data mining, data management, and optimization. Some of her academic projects include predictive modeling for Airbnb pricing and home default rates. Through these projects, she demonstrated her ability to build robust models using ensemble and stacking methods and to manage large datasets through task parallelization. Grace’s professional experience includes roles as a Data Scientist at Bitauto and China Unicom, and as a Software Engineer at Wits. At China Unicom, she developed predictive models for telecom churn, utilizing time series analysis and feature engineering which enhanced the ROC-AUC score by 22% compared to the baseline model. In her recent role at Wits, she developed an AI-driven resume screening system that was implemented across three company sites that processed over hundreds of resumes. She also worked on automating the accounting data entry process with Microsoft Power Automate, streamlining the tasks of downloading, processing, and uploading data. Now, Grace is excited to further her academic and professional journey, and is thrilled to join the MLDS program, where she looks forward to further developing her skills, learning from peers, and contributing to innovative projects.
