Andrew (Kyu Hyun) Leem graduated from Northwestern University with a degree in Industrial Engineering and Management Sciences. His journey into data science began at the university, where he immersed himself in courses such as probability, statistics, and statistical methods for data mining. Upon graduating, Andrew sought to further sharpen his skills by joining a data science bootcamp. Driven by an interest in cryptocurrency, he embarked on an independent project to develop a predictive model for cryptocurrency price trends. Utilizing an LSTM network and sentiment analysis with the VADER tool, Andrew explored the relationship between social media sentiment and market volatility. Despite initial challenges with the LSTM network's performance, this experience underscored the importance of a robust understanding of algorithms and the fundamentals of data science, motivating him to pursue deeper academic study. As a digital operations consultant at Concentrix Catalyst Korea, Andrew expanded his proficiency in data analytics tools such as Adobe Analytics and Google Analytics. His work with Samsung Electronics' Ecommerce Project involved web tag management, resolving data collection discrepancies across Samsung.com's global domains, and supporting the orchestration of Google Analytics BigQuery data for over 100 subsidiaries using SQL Scheduled Queries. These efforts ensured compliance with strict data retention policies and provided reliable data for the client to analyze. Returning to Northwestern, Andrew aims to deepen his knowledge and skills in the data science field through the program’s curriculum and capstone projects, ultimately helping him pivot his career towards becoming a data scientist.
