People / Students / Class of 2025
Ruyi Lu graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles in June 2024 with a major in Statistics and Data Science, and minors in Mathematics and Digital Humanities. She is proficient in programming languages such as R, Python, MATLAB, SQL, and C++ and analytical tools such as Tableau and STATA. Throughout her undergraduate studies, Ruyi received rigorous training in statistical and mathematical theory and gained proficiency in applying machine learning algorithms to extract business insights. In addition to completing her coursework, Ruyi conducted a research project about the performance of opinion models on directed networks. Her work included in-depth sentiment analysis of tweet data on various topics using packages including NLTK, spaCy, and NRCLex and simulating the opinion exchange under the setting. She also created profile images for all captured users to drive the business focus of the models. During her internship at the China Mobile Information Technology Center, Ruyi applied her analytical and visualization skills to understand the segmentation of the programmatic advertising market and the positioning of the company's full range of advertising platforms, presenting through actionable reports and Tableau dashboards. She also followed updates on the development of the new advertising platform and analyzed causes for customer conversion rate fluctuations in advertising trials, accelerated the platform launching process. Ruyi is excited about the opportunities in the Machine Learning and Data Science program at Northwestern University. She hopes to combine her unique insights with analytical methods to explore the world behind data in innovative ways.
