People / Students / Class of 2025
Mingsha is a young data scientist and analyst, with a strong interest in using data for understanding people and making business and social impact. Before joining the graduate class at Northwestern, she earned her Bachelor's degree in Operations Research and Management Science (ORMS) and Data Science at the University of California, Berkeley. Her studies included machine learning, natural language processing (NLP), data engineering, optimization, and data-driven decision-making. Outside of coursework, she kicked off her data science career at Sutro, a consumer electronics startup, working on user data visualization on Tableau. Soon upon studying NLP, she conducted research on NLP methods for teenage negotiation and education science at the Center for Effective Global Action at UC Berkeley, where she began her effort to "understand people" with data. Later, she interned at Ipsos, a market research and consulting company, and worked on data-oriented consumer insights in retail and healthcare industries. Her past projects, research, and internships together developed her analytical mindset, embedded with data-centered problem-solving frameworks, which she aims to further harness during her studies at Northwestern. By continuously expanding her domain expertise and skillsets, she aspires to dedicate herself to the field of tech, retail, or healthcare beyond graduation from Northwestern - merging her passion for efficient and sustainable data science with optimizing outcomes for businesses, individuals, and communities.
