Philip Dawny Philip graduated from St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai in 2022, majoring in Statistics and Economics. Engaging with an undergraduate coursework composed of statistics, machine learning, mathematics and economics was formative for his inclination towards data science. During this time, he undertook several academic and personal projects which involved analyzing economic and demographic datasets, employing techniques such as sample survey, multiple regression and time series forecasting. Philip carried forward this exposure to the fundamentals of data science to his internships which further bolstered his interest in the domain. During his internship at IBS Software, he explored the application of Facebook’s Prophet time series forecasting model in building a dynamic pricing engine for flight tickets. At NeST Digital he worked with big data tools like Kafka and PySpark in Azure cloud to construct a real-time data streaming pipeline for cyber threat data. Implementing Apache Superset to visualize critical alerts and summary reports in real-time, allowed him to achieve a 3x reduction in response time to data leak events. Philip brings with him two years of full time experience in the data science domain, working on product as a Data Science Engineer at Entomo. During this time, he honed his skill working with state of the art NLP technologies like transformer models and LLM embeddings (GPT/Llama) to develop an in-house knowledge graph for modeling job competency insights. Additionally, he spearheaded collaboration initiatives with the product and sales teams to ensure that development efforts with latest advancements like GenAI and LLMs were closely aligned with the product roadmap, and these pursuits of his were recognized with the Global Spotlight Award at Entomo. In addition to hands-on experience with software development best practices like Git workflows and Agile methodology, Philip also possesses technical proficiency over AWS and Azure pipelines for ML/data science workloads with exposure to tools like AWS EC2, Lambda, S3, API gateway etc. True to his drive of staying updated on the cutting-edge of AI/ML, he also recently completed the Microsoft Certified - Azure AI fundamentals certification. His goal is to build expertise in the NLP domain, and also to explore the possibilities of deep learning for novel applications in technology and business. Through the MLDS program, Philip eagerly looks forward to reinforcing his technical knowledge with advanced courses like deep learning and big data, as well as diving into practical applications of the subjects through the practicum and internship experiences. With his comprehensive industry experience and innovative outlook, Philip is well prepared to thrive in all opportunities that come his way.
