Krina Shah’s educational background combines business, economics and data science. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Commerce with a specialisation in Finance and Accounting from Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics and a Master’s Degree in Commerce from University of Mumbai majoring in Business Management. Complementing her Business and Finance knowledge she also has a Graduate Diploma in Economics from the Meghnad Desai Academy of Economics. Krina has also pursued professional qualifications with the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries in London, acquiring expertise in financial mathematics, probability, and mathematical statistics. During her graduate diploma she became increasingly interested in the integration of data science with economics and finance. As a Research Assistant at the Meghnad Desai Academy of Economics, she conducted quantitative research under the mentorship of Dr. Tushar Poddar, focusing on healthcare expenditure and gender mortality rates in developing countries. She is interested in exploring how our culture adapts to new trends, affecting our lifestyles, relationship with money, and comfort levels with new innovations. Krina's professional journey began with an internship at Zebpay, where she contributed significantly to research and development initiatives, during her 3 months she contributed to automating Management Internal System(MIS), enhancing data accessibility through python automation, and optimising workflow efficiency. She also developed a Decentralised Autonomous Organisation(DAO) for women in the organisation to increase the power of women in corporate governance. She progressed to a full-time role as a Data Scientist at Zebpay, where she was instrumental in developing innovative blockchain solutions, including a Web3 product utilising smart contracts and NFTs for transparency in the garment industry’s supply chain system. She worked on developing a Digital Asset Tracing MVP to track Bitcoin transactions, which enabled robust blockchain analytics, identifying and flagging illicit transactions for heightened security and compliance. Additionally, Krina pioneered eco-friendly Bitcoin mining initiatives, underscoring her commitment to sustainable practices in technology. As part of the cryptography team she researched and analysed smart contract architecture from leading bridging protocols, leveraging insights to consult on the development of Insaanity - an innovative interoperability layer for public blockchains. Krina is curious about everything technology and how it affects our decision making process. She is excited to be part of the Machine Learning and Data Science program at Northwestern University, where she will get to engage with her peers and learn from them in a very stimulating environment. Armed with the knowledge and skills acquired through the MLDS program, her focus is to contribute to industries where threat modelling, policy analysis, and trend prediction play a pivotal role.
