Yunze Wei graduated from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor of Science degree in Statistics. His educational background has equipped him with robust competencies in statistics, data science, and machine learning. Yunze has honed his technical skills in Python, SQL, and R, as well as proficiency with BI tools such as Tableau, Data Studio, and Power BI. During his internship as an Analytics Modeling intern at Moody's Ratings, Yunze built a Financial Conditions Index full data pipeline from time-series data pulling to real-time tracking, mainly using Python, MySQL, and Power BI, significantly streamlining the rating process for emerging markets. At Wayfair, Yunze worked as a Business Analyst intern, where he optimized the ETL process and automated reporting for weekly KPIs, achieving a remarkable increase in operational efficiency. His development of Random Forest models to predict discrepancies between expected and actual arrival times provided critical insights for the team, and his data visualizations added significant value for senior leadership. Moreover, Yunze's role as a Part-time Data Assistant at the University of Michigan involved preprocessing extensive user log data, computing retention rates, and applying regression analysis to predict student performance. His contributions facilitated the identification of underperforming students and improved academic outcomes. In his research endeavors, Yunze worked on projects related to network analysis and electronic health records (EHR). He verified novel two-sample test methods, created an R package for network analysis, and designed EHR data obfuscation workflows using ML models. With a strong foundation in data science and extensive hands-on experience across various industries, Yunze Wei is poised to become a data scientist. His analytics skills and business acumen, coupled with his interdisciplinary approach, position him to address complex challenges in finance, e-commerce, and more. As a student of Northwestern’s MDLS program, he is excited to learn from industry leaders and collaborate with the talented cohort. Yunze is eager to expand his technical competencies and leverage his skills to drive business success through data science.
