Helen graduated from the University of Chicago Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Data Science (with honors) and a Bachelor of Arts in Media Arts and Design in 2024. Combining the technical and the creative, she is passionate about using data to connect with consumers, enhance media production, and craft artistic solutions for technical problems. On her creative side, she is experienced in making videos in Adobe Premiere, podcasts in Reaper, narrative video games in Twine, and multimedia installations with video projections and handcrafts (her media major capstone project!). On the technical side, she is proficient in Python, SQL, and R for data analysis, engineering, and machine learning. She has worked in analyzing video game streaming business at Tencent, delivering educational app product analytics at International Rescue Committee, and engineering document summary and recommendation prompts for large language models at Argonne National Laboratory. In her current role as a Research & Data Analysis Assistant at Allsides, she designs, implements, and maintains a web scraping application in Python that takes daily screenshots of 50 news outlets’ homepages for AllSides’s “Front Pages Watch” Premium Feature, aiming to drive subscription growth. During college, Helen co-founded UChicago Data Science Society, the inaugural student organization for data science at UChicago, and led over 70 members in the first year. She also worked as a project manager and user researcher for a student startup about leveraging AI for ASMR production, leading the team to win 2nd place in the venture capital challenge hosted by the UChicago International Leadership Council. She is a motivated, self- organized, and flexible individual who deeply values teamwork, ethics, and empathy. She looks forward to learning with the MLDS program and working towards social good, practical impact, and a better future for the world with data and media.
