Reaching Out to the Next Generation: Career Day for Girls
Hands-on workshops show girls what engineering is all about
For 42 years, Chicago-area girls have gathered at the McCormick School of Engineering for a one-day, hands-on career workshop to introduce them to careers in STEM fields (science, technology, engineering, and math).
Career Day for Girls encourages young women to consider engineering in their education and career choices. It also gives them a chance to design a self-propelled car, program a robot, observe bacteria through a microscope, and more.
“We really want to empower these young students so they can see themselves as a practicing female engineer,” said Ellen Worsdall, assistant dean for student affairs at McCormick.
