Hani Mahmassani Named 2024 INFORMS Fellow
Mahmassani was recognized for contributions to transportation science and leadership in the field
Northwestern Engineering’s Hani Mahmassani has been named to the 2024 class of Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS) Fellows, one of the highest honors in the operations research (OR) profession.
The largest association for the decision and data sciences, INFORMS annually recognizes fellows for their outstanding lifetime accomplishments and contributions in OR and analytics.
Mahmassani was honored for “contributions to transportation science, network modeling, and applications to intelligent transportation systems management, and for professional and editorial leadership.” One of 12 named to the 2024 INFORMS Fellows class, Mahmassani will be celebrated at the 2024 INFORMS Annual Meeting, held October 20-23 in Seattle.
Mahmassani is the William A. Patterson Distinguished Chair in Transportation and a professor of civil and environmental engineering and (by courtesy) industrial engineering and management sciences at the McCormick School of Engineering. He specializes in multimodal transportation systems analysis, planning and operations, dynamic network modeling and optimization, transit network planning and design, dynamics of user behavior and telematics, telecommunication-transportation interactions, large-scale human infrastructure systems, and real-time operation of logistics and distribution systems.
A member of the Northwestern faculty since 2007, Mahmassani directs the Northwestern University Transportation Center. The center aims to influence national and international transportation policy, management, operations, and technological developments.
