Biography
Katie Duke has been teaching writing for more than 25 years. Currently, she co-teaches Design Thinking and Communication (DTC) through Northwestern University's School of Engineering and Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences. She also teaches business writing and expository writing classes at Northwestern University's School of Professional Studies and communication courses in McCormick's Master of Project Management Program.
Duke owns her own company, Better Business Communication. Through this company, she teaches writing seminars and workshops at various businesses and educational institutions in the Chicagoland area. Her specialty is business and development writing. Some of her most popular workshops include Writing for Results: Better Business Writing, Writing with Style, Advanced Business Writing, Proofread Like a Pro, Writing for Someone Else's Signature, Writing Difficult Messages, and Polishing Your Prose. Duke has also worked individually with employees at many organizations to enhance their writing.
In addition to teaching workshops and seminars, Duke works as a freelance writer, specializing in newspaper, newsletter, and magazine articles as well as fundraising proposals, reports, and stewardship letters. Some of her clients have included Northwestern University, The University of Chicago, U.S. Cellular, Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary, The Evanston Community Foundation, Rotary International, and the American Medical Association.
Before becoming a freelance writer and writing instructor, Katie spent eight years at Northwestern University in various administrative positions, most recently director of development for the Medill School of Journalism.
