Research Interests
Dr. Fleming teaches Advanced Finite Element Analysis and is a core faculty member of the Simulation-driven Engineering (SdX) program.
He is a Principal Engineer at Caulfield Engineering and is a mechanical engineer specializing in engineering design, analysis, and accident investigation for vehicles and other machines. He is a consultant for design review and evaluation of products, machinery and product testing, accident investigation and reconstruction, and failure analysis. Prior to joining Caulfield Engineering, Dr. Fleming gained experience working as an engineering consultant at Packer Engineering and ITC, and as a design engineer at Case Corporation/CNH.
Dr. Fleming received his Ph.D. in theoretical and applied mechanics from Northwestern University in 1997, studying fracture mechanics and computer simulation methods, his M.S. degree in theoretical and applied mechanics from Northwestern University in 1994, studying reliability and fracture mechanics, and his B.S. degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1992. He is a licensed professional engineer in the state of Illinois and a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), United States Association for Computational Mechanics (USACM), and ASM International.
