Undergraduate Study

  • Flexible curriculum allows in-depth application of mathematics in areas like engineering, economics, physics, mathematics, or social sciences
  • Many students combine their applied-math major with another major that reflects their additional interests
  • Opportunities for undergraduate research in a wide area of topics
  • Class size in the major courses is 20 to 30 students

Graduate Study

  • Approximately 45 PhD and 20 MS graduate students in applied math
  • Highly interdisciplinary graduate research with world-class faculty members
  • Research is very applied; most students collaborate with experimentalists in science and engineering
  • All doctorate candidate graduate students are supported by fellowships, research assistantships, and teaching assistantships
  • Can complete an MS degree in as little as one academic year with study plans tailored to individual students’ interests
  • Typically five years to complete a PhD (beyond BS)
