The AED Minor cultivates the skills of the next generation of engineers, equipping them to tackle today's global sustainability challenges through a blend of creative and technical thinking. A crucial component of our comprehensive approach is the inclusion of international study opportunities for AED students. Every two years, the program organizes a five-day trip to a prominent European city, enabling students to engage with internationally acclaimed architects and engineers while immersing themselves in the local history and culture.
In previous years, AED students have had the privilege of visiting and studying at esteemed institutions such as the Institute for Lightweight Structures and Conceptual Design (ILEK) in Stuttgart, as well as participating in intensive workshops hosted by ARUP's Madrid office. These workshops delve into a wide range of architectural, façade, and materials design engineering challenges. Alongside these educational experiences, students also embark on captivating tours of iconic structures and neighboring cities, providing them with a profound exposure to the vibrant design culture found abroad.

The AED trip to Spain was a full immersion in architecture and engineering. Whether out in the field looking at projects or speaking to the leading experts behind them, I learned a tremendous amount about the considerations that go into designing a sustainable façade system. It was also a ton of fun getting to live and work in a place like Madrid with my peers.
