Student Spotlight: Anastasia Nally
Anastasia Nally recently attended and graduated from the University of Newcastle, Australia with a Bachelor of Civil Engineering with honors. She had first heard of Northwestern University through Professor Jim Hambleton, currently a geotechnical engineering assistant professor at Northwestern, whom Nally worked with during her undergraduate thesis.
With Nally’s goal to obtain a position as a PhD student, she began researching American universities. The American graduate school structure quickly appealed to her, and after exploring my options, she soon came to realize that Northwestern was the best fit.
Nally has since found that the courses at Northwestern have deepened her knowledge in the areas that most interest her: geotechnical engineering. She looks forward to commencing research for her PhD thesis, which she hopes will be related to soil machine interaction or new methods of in-situ soil testing. Although she has not ruled out a career in academia, after she completes her PhD, she currently aspires to work in the private research sector. She hopes to work in newly emerging fields of geotechnical engineering and incorporate multi-disciplinary engineering technologies.
Anastasia Nally is expected to graduate in 2021 with a doctorate of Geotechnical Engineering.
