Vaccinating at Warp Speed

As Illinois nears a state of mass vaccination, Professor Hani Mahmassani, director of the Northwestern University Transportation Center, lends his logistics expertise toward vaccination distribution. He spoke with CBS 2 Investigator Megan Hickey saying that he is not surprised that federal officials believe they can distribut 6.8 million vaccines to all 64 jurisdictions within 24 hours of authorization by the Food and Drug Administration. He went on to say that 40 million doses by the end of 2020 is “pushing the system. It’s really pushing the system.” Nevertheless, Mahmassani said he does not worry about the big picture transportation, but worries that the distribution at the local level might be less streamlined.
