2022 BAE Best Paper Award
Professor Giorgia Chinazzo Wins 2022 Building and Environment Best Paper Award
Professor Giorgia Chinazzo has been awarded the 2022 Best Paper Award from the journal Building and Environment, one of the most prestigious journals in the Building Science community. The paper is titled “Quality criteria for multi-domain studies in the indoor environment: Critical review towards research guidelines and recommendations.”
The study resulted from an international collaboration spanning over two years with more than 35 scholars that Dr. Chinazzo initiated and led in the context of Annex 79 “Occupant-Centric Building Design and Operation” of the International Energy Agency Energy in Buildings and Communities Programme (IEA-EBC). The study highlights several shortcomings in the design, deployment, and documentation of multi-domain studies in the Building Science field, emphasizing the need for quality improvements in future multi-domain research. To this end, the study provides a range of criteria for multi-domain study design and reporting (i.e., defined as quality criteria).
The award was established in 2007 as a measure to encourage the publishing of high-quality papers in Buildings and the Environment. The article was first ranked highly by the reviewers of the paper, then selected by the Editors and Editors-in-Chief, further evaluated by the Editorial Advisory Board of the journal, and finally determined by the Best Paper Award Committee. The award was given to the paper for its originality, contributions to the field, quality of presentation, and soundness of the science. This is a significant award since the paper was selected from a competitive pool of nominees, and the journal received about 5500 submissions in 2022. It is the first time that this award has been given to a faculty member at Northwestern University.
