Prerequisites
Undergraduate-level digital communications and digital signal processing. Familiarity with Matlab and C programming is desirable.Description
CATALOG DESCRIPTION: 3GPP 5G new radio, communications standardization process, protocol stack, hardware/software implementation.
DESCRIPTION: This course will cover various aspects of the 5G new radio (NR) protocol stack, starting from the different blocks in a digital communication system, concepts of carrier frequency, bandwidth, SNR, link budget calculation, orthogonal frequency division multiplexing and its advantages and challenges, and moving on to discuss the standardization process, 5G NR terminology, the 5G NR system architecture and network elements, the physical, MAC, radio resource control layers, transport channel processing, retransmission protocols, scheduling, transmit power control, multiple antenna support and beam management in 5G, network access procedures, and how all of these come together in practice using an open-source 5G platform. This will be a hands-on, practically oriented course.
