Prem Kumar Represents National Photonics Initiative in Washington DC

As part of his involvement as a steering committee member of the National Photonics Initiative (NPI),Prem Kumar, professor of electrical and computer engineering, traveled to Washington DC in October to thank staff in Congressional offices for their support for increasing resources for optics and photonics, and to inform them of recent breakthroughs.

The NPI is a collaborative alliance among industry, academia, and government to raise awareness of and drive investment in photonics. NPI members met with staff in the offices of Senators Duckworth and Durbin and Representatives Schakowsky and Foster of Illinois, Senator Sinema and Representatives Grijalva and Kirkpatrick of Arizona and Senators Murray and Cantwell and Representative Beutler of Washington.
