NO-COST ONLINE WEBINARS
Over the coming year the Executive Management for Design and Construction (EMDC) program at Northwestern University will present a series of no-cost online webinars on a variety of important specialized topics of interest in our profession, such as crisis management, succession planning, joint ventures, cyber security, and others.
These webinars will be presented by one of our adjunct professors, Karen P. Layng, President of M.A.I.T. Company. Each webinar consists of a 1-hour video followed by a 1.5-hour interactive discussion involving the presenter and the participants. The video presents the background material and sets the tone for the ensuing discussion.
This is the same format used to teach all of the online courses in the EMDC program.
After registration, our program facilitator will communicate with you to explain the methodology to facilitate participation. The webinars require no preparation, except to view the video prior to the webinar discussion.

SUCCESSION PLANNING
To succeed in any engineering or construction business, it is critical for managers in all areas of the business to understand the firm’s strategic plan and areas of potential risk, beyond preparing project drawings, bid estimates or CPM schedules. This webinar will address enterprise risks arising from failure to succession plan or to conduct sufficient due diligence concerning the succession planning (or lack thereof) with those companies whom you contract. We will also examine key distinctions with a difference between strategic corporate succession planning versus estate planning and discuss the role of buy-sell agreements after the (or one of the key) owners dies.
