A course on phase transformations in crystalline solids. Topics will include the thermodynamics of ordered materials: Landau expansions, Bragg-Williams model, antiphase domain boundaries; the kinetics of ordering: ordering spinodals, conditional spinodals, and spinodal ordering; the effects of stress on phase transformations: origins of stress during phase transformations, coherent phase equilibria, coherent nucleation and spinodal decomposition; introduction to solidification and crystal growth.
