Office Hours
The MSE Department office is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. CT. Please note, some staff work hybrid schedules; if a team member is working remotely, please contact them by e-mail or schedule a meeting on Zoom or Teams.
Student/postdoc/researcher mail is currently available for pick-up in the main hallway of the MSE office suite (Cook 2036). Core faculty mail remains in Cook 2036 near the printer.
You can pick up non-perishable packages directly from Tech D110 Monday through Friday, 12 - 1 PM. Perishable packages are available for pick-up from Tech MG92 Monday through Friday, 8 AM - 4 PM. Immediate pickup of perishable packages is necessary due to limited space.
Printing
For instructions on connecting to the 2nd floor printer from your computer, please click here. The department's 3rd floor printer in Cook Hall is available for black-and-white printing. For instructions on connecting to the 3rd floor printer from your computer, please click here.
Keys and Wildcard Access
Please send your NetID and Employee/Student ID to matsci@northwestern.edu to request Wildcard access to Cook Hall and the Tech building; if you need access to specific rooms or facilities, please specify this in your request.
For key requests, please either a) fill out this form and submit it to matsci@northwestern.edu or b) email matsci@northwestern.edu with the access you need and request an e-signable form from our department. Please forward email documentation of PI approval (or CC them on your email requesting access) with all access requests.
Purchasing
Research groups can contact MSEPurchasing@northwestern.edu regarding purchasing needs. iBuy carts can be assigned to Shannon Lally.

Please complete this form when submitting purchase requests in which the cost is split between multiple chart-strings.
Contractors
Northwestern University Risk Management’s contractor approval process (Contractor Safety Program) is required for all companies who conduct activities on campus. If the contractor you are working with is not on the approved or pending lists, please add the company here to initiate the approval process or request MSE staff assistance with this process.
Please note that all visitors, including contractors, are no longer required to register before coming onsite. All unvaccinated visitors are encouraged to still monitor their symptoms and comply with applicable safety protocols.
Reimbursements
MSE students, postdocs, and researchers can contact MSEReimbursements@northwestern.edu regarding reimbursements for travel, events, etc. (Faculty reimbursements should be routed to McCormick Customer Service center.)

Other Services
Travel
To direct bill flight and hotel reservations, you will first need an Egencia profile: Egencia profile request form. Upon completion of the form, you will be contacted by MSE staff who will assist you with next steps.
Room Reservations
To reserve a room within the MSE department, please reach out to matsci@northwestern.edu. Please include in your request:
- Purpose (student group, qualifier, defense, practice presentation, research group meeting, general meeting)
- Room preference(s) commonly requested spaces include: Bodeen Lab (Tech C115), Computer Science 3501, Computer Science 3514, Ford Hive (Room 2350), Ford ITW Auditorium (1350), Krebs Classroom, MSE Conference Room (Cook 2058), MSE Small Conference Room (Cook 2047), Ryan 4003, Silverman Hall 2510
- Indicate if it is a recurring meeting, and if yes, for how long.
- Number of people.
- If the meeting requires Zoom or room technology
- Date(s), time, duration.
- Name of group or person requesting the reservation.
