In 2007, the department created awards in honor of Professor John Hilliard that recognize outstanding achievements by our undergraduate students.
These awards are presented to graduating seniors in two categories:

2023
Undergraduate Research and Design
Davy Zeng, Advisor: Professor Mark Hersam/Thomas
Davy will enter the Ph.D. program at the University of Michigan in the fall.
Undergraduate Leadership, Scholarship and Service
Jazmyn Lu, recognized for her strength as a community-builder and, in particular, her leadership of the MatSci Club and the Concrete Canoe team.

Jacob will begin the Ph.D. program at MIT this fall, advised by MSE alum Chris Schuh.
Undergraduate Leadership, Scholarship and Service
Simona Fine, recognized for her scholarship as an honors student in MSE and a double major in English, for leadership as a Peer Advisor, a Fellow of her Residential College, and for her contributions to research during COVID. Simona will continue her academic career as a Ph.D. student in MSE at NU.
