Wendy Murray Wins Jean Landa Pytel Award
The award honors diversity mentorship in biomechanics
Northwestern Engineering’s Wendy Murray was presented the Jean Landa Pytel Award at the 2024 Annual Meeting of the American Society of Biomechanics (ASB).
Murray, a professor of biomedical engineering at the McCormick School of Engineering and a professor of physical medicine and rehabilitation at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, has created a research program that focuses on the biomechanical design of our arms and hands. Her ARMS (Applied Research in Musculoskeletal Systems) Lab is housed in clinical space at the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab as a part of a unique, long-standing collaboration between Northwestern and the hospital. The main thrust of her lab’s current research is to better understand and, ultimately, to help improve function of the disabled upper limb.
The Jean Landa Pytel Award honors diversity mentorship in biomechanics and mentors who have made a demonstrable difference in the career paths of their mentees. The ASB encourages and fosters the exchange of information and ideas among biomechanists working in different disciplines and facilitates the development of biomechanics as a basic and applied science. Murray served as President of the American Society of Biomechanics in the 2017-2018 academic year.
Murray received her award at the ASB 2024 conference, held August 5-8 in Madison, Wisconsin.
