/ Getting Started
If you are an undergraduate student, please follow the steps on this page to participate in one of Engineering Career Development's four work-integrated learning programs:
1) Take CRDV-301: Intro to Career Development
- Enroll in this course to get important information about networking, interviewing, resumes, cover letters, and other job search skills.
- Five sections of CRDV301 are offered every quarter.
- This is a zero-credit, one-hour course that meets once per week for the quarter.
- Register for the course through CAESAR during normal registration periods.
- Create an account in McCormickConnect after your first class. You must be registered for the CRDV-301 course to have access to McCormickConnect.
2) Meet With a Career Advisor
- To set up an initial meeting with an Engineering Career Development career advisor, log into your McCormickConnect account. Note: The appointment scheduler has been upgraded as of January 1, 2024. Here's how to ensure you're seeing all advisor availability accordingly...
- On the left hand navigation menu in McCormickConnect, select Advising > Advising Appointments
- Select the +Appointment (“Add Appointment”) on the top left
- A pop-up window will open that lists the types of appointments you can schedule (30-minute Career Advising, or Internship/Co-op Registration Meeting)
- 30-minute Career Advising appointments will allow additional topic selections of: Resume/Cover Letter Review, Job Search, Interview Prep, etc.
- Internship/Co-op Registration Meetings are solely used for students who have received and accepted an internship or co-op and are ready to register it with ECD for enrollment into one of our coordinating experiential learning courses
- Virtual Registration Meeting Drop-ins are held bi-weekly on Fridays only through May 31st and cannot be booked/scheduled in advance
- After selecting the Appointment Type, click 'Find Available Appointments'
- Next, you will see an Advising Calendar of availability that will provide a count of open appointment slots for the next 2 weeks (we recommend that you limit the number of filters used in the search to ensure you are seeing all availability)
- Select your preferred date, time, and attendance type (In-person vs Virtual)
- Leave any necessary 'Notes for Advisor' and click 'Save'
- You can also attend walk-in advising hours, which are first come, first served express appointments in our office. Upcoming walk-in hours are listed on our Plan-it Purple webpage.
- Your ECD advisor is an important resource to help you create a strategy for your job search.
3) Interview With Potential Employers
- Use ECD's job search resources to prepare for interviews with potential employers
- Log into McCormickConnect to apply for jobs and improve your chances of being selected for an interview
4) Accept Offer & Report It to Engineering Career Development
- Once you have accepted an offer, report it to ECD using McCormickConnect.
- If you are participating in a co-op or a multiple-term internship, meet with your faculty advisor and speak with your employer to determine your work schedule.
5) Maintain Enrollment Status
- Schedule a registration meeting with your career advisor.
- Learn about enrolling in the CRDV course. Your advisor will enroll you after you report your hire and complete your registration meeting.
6) Evaluate your Experience
- During each work term, you will evaluate your own experience and participation, and your supervisor will complete a performance review.
7) Return to Campus
- As you return to campus, browse our student resources section for assistance with logistics such as financial aid, housing, and meal plans.
- Check-in with your career advisor to discuss your experience.
