Ian Wiese

President & Chief Technology Officer at Metcovery

Ian Wiese is President and CTO of Metcovery, a startup that helps companies achieve zero-waste by recovering residual metal value from solid waste sources through leveraging and scaling pyrometallurgical processes. He was also formerly CTO of NUMiX Materials, a water purification company with its genesis in Northwestern’s NUvention program.

Ian has operations and innovation experience in metallurgy with Chicago Extruded Metals, where he created a new non-leaded brass alloy (C27460) through the Copper Development Association, and AMPCO Metals, an international company where he restructured operations for AMPCO’s French foundry and trained as an AS 9100 auditor to oversee quality certification. Ian also serves on the Board of Directors for the Non-Ferrous Founders' Society. Though an engineer by training, Ian is a generalist who adds value to a broad range of functions, including marketing, sales, training, and business development—skills that situate him well in the entrepreneurial space. Ian is particularly passionate about mentoring MEM students.
