Academics / Undergraduate Study / Prospective UndergraduatesBS Degree in Mechanical Engineering
The Department of Mechanical Engineering prepares students for successful careers in fields such as dynamics, solid mechanics, fluid mechanics, and thermodynamics. After building a solid foundation through our Engineering First® curriculum, our students continue onto cutting-edge courses in areas such as computer-aided manufacturing, robotics, micromechanical systems, and energy principles.
Design, laboratory, and project courses are spread throughout the curriculum, allowing students to acquire a taste for the complex task of designing, building, and analyzing devices and experiments. Technical electives and supporting courses in allied fields of science and engineering broaden the student’s technical proficiency, while student-chosen courses in social sciences, fine arts, history, and philosophy expand and complement the student’s comprehensive education.
Combined Degrees
Northwestern engineering students can take advantage of several combined degree programs offered by McCormick, including the opportunity to earn two BS degrees simultaneously, the BS/MS program, and the Combined Music and Engineering Program.
