New Undergraduate Exchange Program in Shanghai
Students have the opportunity to study with China's highest ranked mechanical engineering program
As of fall 2016, Northwestern University has established a new undergraduate exchange program with Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU), which is has the highest ranked mechanical engineering program in China.
To kick off the program, SJTU’s Wenbo Yu, a senior in mechanical engineering, is currently spending a year at Northwestern while Northwestern’s Emilie Jones spent fall semester at SJTU. Manohar Kulkarni, Northwestern’s assistant chair and clinical professor of mechanical engineering, leads the exchange program.
Through the program, Northwestern’s mechanical engineering students have the opportunity to spend fall quarter, winter/spring quarters, or a full year at SJTU. SJTU’s dean of mechanical engineering offers a scholarship of $1,000 per month to help offset living costs.
To be eligible for the exchange program, Northwestern applicants must be juniors, seniors, or fifth-year co-op students majoring in mechanical or biomedical engineering. Students must also have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Application deadlines:
- For the fall quarter or full year program: January 15, 2017
- For winter/spring quarters: June 1, 2017
