Accepted Student Checklist
Welcome to MSR! You will need to complete a few tasks soon after accepting admission:
- Activate your Northwestern email account upon receipt of your NetID activation code.
- Remember to check your Northwestern email regularly for announcements from the program and university.
- By July 1, complete the Entrance Health Requirements for Non-Healthcare students as mandated by the State of Illinois.
- International students: Begin the student visa process once you activate your NetID.
- If eligible and interested, apply for federal loans. Visit the Evanston Office of Graduate Financial Aid website for more information.
- All students are required to have health insurance:
- Domestic students can choose to enroll in the Northwestern student health insurance plan (NU-SHIP) or waive their coverage by demonstrating alternative coverage. If you do not take any action, you will be enrolled in NU-SHIP and you will be responsible for the annual premium.
- International students are required to enroll in NU-SHIP.
- Send in official transcripts for all of the post-secondary institutions you have attended. Transcripts should be sent within six weeks of accepting your admission offer.
If you are still completing your previous degree, please wait until you have your final transcript.

- Help with housing can be found at these links:
- DO NOT buy a laptop for the program; MSR will provide you with a Linux laptop, which will be integral to your learning.
- In June you will receive an invitation to the program's New Student Canvas site through your Northwestern email. The Canvas site will have information about orientation, registration, and much more.
