Stellar Astrophysics

Stars are the among the most fundamental objects in astrophysics. Recent space-based missions have provided a striking view of the insides of stars, often times directly contradicting decades-old theoretical predictions. This has led to many key questions: How is energy generated by nuclear reactions in the core of a star transported to its surface? What determines the rotation of stars? What types of waves are in stars, and what sets their amplitudes? Do all stars have self-generated magnetic fields? All of these questions in astrophysical fluid dynamics can be addressed with a mixture of mathematical modeling, supercomputer simulations, theoretical calculations, and careful comparison to observations.
