Edith Elkind Named Structural Democracy Faculty Fellow
Northwestern Engineering's Edith Elkind has been inducted into the inaugural cohort of Data and Democracy Lab Structural Democracy Faculty Fellows, funded by the Crankstart Foundation.
The Data and Democracy Lab is a research group at the Brooks School of Public Policy at Cornell University, led by Moon Duchin.
Elkind is the Ginni Rometty Professor of Computer Science at the McCormick School of Engineering. Her project, "Participatory Budgeting for Building Cohesive Communities," will explore three emerging directions in computational social choice: fairness in urban planning and infrastructure, design of multiwinner voting rules that promote social cohesion, and proportionality in temporal voting.
