Center for Advancing Safety of Machine Intelligence

The rapid adoption of machine learning applications has outpaced efforts to understand how these technologies shape and affect human lives and communities.

Northwestern and the Digital Intelligence Safety Research Institute (DISRI) at Underwriters Laboratories Inc. launched the Center for Advancing Safety of Machine Intelligence (CASMI), a research hub that seeks to better incorporate safety and equity into the fast-growing technology of artificial intelligence.

Northwestern hosts, and the two institutions jointly lead, the research and operations of CASMI. Teams at Northwestern and investigators at partner institutions are leading mission-directed catalyst projects to advance the state of the art and answer key questions in the field.
