Description

Course objective

To familiarize industrial engineering (and other) majors with the foundations of industrial engineering practice and a general background on technology organizations.

This subject area arises out of the fact that modern industrial engineering, and university curricula, focus on advanced methods and new areas of major importance and may not provide a grounding in the basics and perspectives that may still be expected of graduate engineers, if only occasionally.

Course methods

Each week will focus on a different topic, with a student group preparing a brief lecture, followed by an examination, and supplemental comments by the instructor. There are additional group assignments on topics that cut across the primary organization of the weekly topics.

Grading

Grading will consist of grades on the group assignments, and grades on the weekly exams.

A final (brief paper) and/or final examination may also be used in grading.
