Areas of Analysis

All three areas of data analysis are studied:

  • Predictive (forecasting)
  • Descriptive (business intelligence and data mining)
  • Prescriptive (optimization and simulation)

Comprehensive Curriculum

Many programs focus on just one aspect of analytics, often producing graduates who are trained primarily in modeling or data mining. Our curriculum is more comprehensive and provides students with a broader perspective, teaching them the skills necessary to be highly effective in solving real-world business challenges.

Students learn that naïve data analysis can be misleading, that large-scale problems are not amenable to simple solutions, and that working with unstructured field data is different than working with the results of a design experiment.

Our comprehensive coursework covers the following:

  • Database management
  • Statistical analysis
  • Data mining
  • Project management
  • Business intelligence

Management Concepts

The mix of management concepts and technical focus presented in the Master of Engineering Management program prepares working professionals to thrive in the increasingly complex managerial environment of today's technology-based organizations.

Unlike a graduate degree in a science or engineering specialty, this graduate degree offers the practical business perspective needed by technical managers.

Comprehensive Curriculum

Unlike a traditional MBA program, the Master of Engineering Management program emphasizes skills specifically required in technology-based organizations. To achieve this balance, the curriculum blends the following:

  • Business basics
  • Quantitative methods
  • Behavioral science in a practical, problem-solving framework

Students learn management skills, concepts, language, and methodology, but always in an engineering context.
