The Department of Industrial Engineering and Management Sciences (IEMS) at Northwestern Engineering continues gaining outside recognition.

The year’s US News and World Report rankings listed Northwestern IEMS as the No. 4 graduate program among other industrial engineering programs, and No. 6 among undergraduate industrial engineering programs.

“This recognition is a testament to the dedication and excellence of our faculty, students, and staff, who consistently push the boundaries of innovation and scholarship,” said Simge Küçükyavuz, David A. and Karen Richards Sachs Professor and chair of Industrial Engineering and Management Sciences. "Our department remains committed to providing a world-class education and fostering an environment where future leaders in the field can thrive.”

Established in 1958, the IEMS department collaborates with 25 other departments and carries out internationally recognized fundamental research in optimization, statistics and statistical learning, and stochastic models and simulation that often serves as enabling technology for other researchers to solve a wide range of problems.

The department strives to conduct state-of-the-art research supported by funding from granting agencies and industry; provide outstanding educational experiences to undergraduate, graduate, and professional students through modern curricula, excellent teaching, and personalized advising and mentoring; recruit and retain the best faculty members; continuously improve its undergraduate and graduate student recruitment and placement; and provide excellent service to all of its constituencies.
